The articlе deals with the story of creation of the poem “Heretic” (“Yan Hus”) by Taras Shevchenko in 1845, its historic ruts, examines its manuscripts and the first publications in 1906 and 1907. This poem influenced the members of secret national organization known under the name “Kyryllo-Methodiy Fraternity” and proclaimed the ideas of a national rebirth and the unity of Slavonic people
